For over 20 years, the President Hotel has managed to achieve a somewhat rare feat for a hotel in this ever-changing country – it’s kept itself constantly relevant and popular. One would be hard-pressed to find another hotel in the city state that has been around for this long and continues to receive award after award and be equally popular among guests.
Situated in one of the most upmarket areas in Cape Town, it’s the perfect base for shopping and sightseeing.
The decor is quite traditional with antiques and gilt mirrors giving a real sense of opulence.
Upon walking in to the room, I’m immediately drawn to a cheese platter before tearing myself away and rushing back out for dinner. Our suite on the 6th floor had a wow factor. Luxurious without being over the top – immediately felt at home.
The view was captivating and the sea twinkled in the sun. I couldn’t wait to explore more of the hotel. With 349 rooms and suites in all. Our suite had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room.
Like any respectable luxury hotel, the room had all the modern amenities you’d expect from a 5 star hotel (mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, fluffy robe and slippers)
Everything about the dining room oozes class, from the cutlery to the floral arrangements and fire place. The cuisine was so good, I’m surprised this isn’t a Michelin starred restaurant. Of our 3 nights we ate here twice and I had the same selection on the menu.
Roasted butternut Penne Pasta with sage cream and topped with pine nuts and parmesan.
On our last night we invited friends to join us for dinner and we only spent R600 for 3 course meal for 5 people which was quite surprising for such a fancy place.
Breakfast at the President is another pleasure. I’ve rarely seen such an impressive buffet, with a huge array of hot and cold dishes and homemade cakes. I always try the scrambled eggs in hotels as they’re hard to get right but these were perfectly fluffy.
There are several events spaces in the hotel, which are as characterful as the rest of the building – this room has Napoleon III style columns and ornate chandeliers, yet it’s fully modular with very modern equipment.
Overall, everything from the food to the setting and the service was absolutely faultless at this hotel. During the whole time I couldn’t help but secretly wish that I was living here!

I was welcomed as a guest of the President Hotel, but all opinions are honest and my own. ?
