I recently spent a week in Zambia of which I spent 5 nights at the same hotel. If you’re looking for a swishy homebase for a Lusaka visit, the Best Western Plus Hotel is a fine choice.
Located in the Great East Road, on the central business district of the city of Lusaka. Best Western Grand Plus Hotel is minutes’ walk to any point of interest, it made our daily explorations a breeze. It is also within a 20 kilometer radius of the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and one kilometer from the city center. Despite being very close to everything I did notice that there is a lot of traffic congestion in this area.
I was there for five nights and had many interactions with the staff (By the time I checked out I knew everyone’s names), My encounters were all very positive. Everyone was very calm, sweet and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed.
The room was was beautifully furnished and it had a old skool vibe with shinny gold curtains. The room also had a variety of handy amenities like a TV with DStv, coffee bar, air conditioning and a array of toiletry items. For the first two nights I didn’t have hot water but I forgave them because they had fast WiFi in every area of the hotel. Eventually I was moved to another room which was more spacious. The hotel has a beautiful pool and gym available for guest use.
Food, and plenty of it
When it comes to dining options at the Best Western Plus Hotel, one is very much spoiled for choice. Firstly, the restaurant is open 24/7 and there is a room service option available. The restaurant has an Indian & Chinese menu. They had the biggest portion sizes I’ve ever seen and I constantly felt like I was wasting food because I never finished my meals.
When weather permits, guests can also enjoy some drinks and nibbles on the hotel’s poolside terrace, which is the ultimate chill spot on a sunny afternoon.
Overall this hotel is clean, the staff members were amazing but it’s quite noisy at night and when you’re in your room you can hear everything that’s happening in the hallway. Nevertheless, I’d recommend staying at Best Western Grand Plus Hotel if you want to visit Lusaka on a budget as rooms are only $100+ a night.
I was welcomed as a guest of Zambia Tourism and Best Western Grand Plus Hotel, but all opinions are honest and my own. 🙂
